چکیده

Dairy heifers had an estimated grazed pasture intake of either 11.8 (H) or 6.0 (L) kg DM/heifer/day for four weeks in early lactation and a common pasture allowance thereafter. Group L produced less milk (2202 vs. 2433 R) and milk protein (75.0 vs. 81.6 kg) than Group H in 31 weeks but milk fat yield (104.9 vs. 109.8 kg) and milk composition were not significantly affected. All heifers lost body condition over 31 weeks but nevertheless gained live weight.

Effect of prepartum intramammary treatment with pirlimycin hydrochloride on prevalence of early first-lactation mastitis in dairy heifers.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether prepartum intramammary treatment of dairy heifers with pirlimycin hydrochloride would reduce the prevalence of intramammary infection (IMI) and lower the somatic cell count (SCC) during early lactation or improve 305-day mature equivalent milk production. DESIGN Prospective clinical trial. ANIMALS 183 Holstein-Friesian heifers (663 quarters) from 2 dairy farms...

Animal Factors Condition Milk Performance and Quality of Grazing Dairy Cows

The base of this review is to consider the relevant role that animal factors (potential milk yield, body weight, body condition score, state of lactation, parity and fertility) play on milk performance (considering the energy balance and the rumen function across the full lactation curve of animals) and milk quality (milk protein content, milk fat content, milk lactose content, vitamins, minera...

Effect of Dietary and Animal Factors on Milk Fatty Acids Composition of Grazing Dairy Cows: A Review

In pasture-based milk production systems, using available farm resources in order to reduce feeding costs, the composition and functional properties of dairy cows’ milk are of considerable importance to the dairy farmer, manufacturer and consumer. Basically, there are three options for altering the composition and/or functional properties of milk: 1) cow nutrition and grazing management, 2) cow...

Direct and carryover effect of post-grazing sward height on total lactation dairy cow performance.

Grazing pastures to low post-grazing sward heights (PGSH) is a strategy to maximise the quantity of grazed grass in the diet of dairy cows within temperate grass-based systems. Within Irish spring-calving systems, it was hypothesised that grazing swards to very low PGSH would increase herbage availability during early lactation but would reduce dairy cow performance, the effect of which would p...

Increased Fecal Ethanol and Methanol Concentration in Dairy Heifers after Grazing

To clarify fermentative alterations in the large intestine (hindgut) during grazing, fecal alcohol and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) concentrations were evaluated in 30 dairy heifers. The heifers were kept in pasture growing mixed grass herbage from spring (mid May) until October, and their rectal feces were collected periodically. Concentrations of ethanol, methanol and isopropanol were increase...
